Kitchen handles: endless possibilities

3 April 2019

Whenever I have to choose a kitchen with a customer, a lot of decisions have to be taken together.

One of the most complicated, and even the most neglected is the choice of the handles, or better the system of the kitchen’s handles. Yes, because knobs can’t be chosen without considering the new handless system.

The handless system

The handless system allows to open the different kitchen modules directly from the notch at the top or on the side of the door, where it can be obtained a linear space either between the board and the door, or between door and the bodywork.

This detail increases the lightness of volumes and allows to the hand to grip the door avoiding a real handle.

The handless system is then the solution for an aesthetically clean and compact kitchen, improving the perception of design and permitting the finishing to stand out.

The most glaring example of this firmness is surely Metropolis, which I’ve already written about in this post, for its power of putting together distinctive design, exclusive materials and last generation technologies.

In Metropolis the handless system increases the perception of clearness and creates a game of light and shadows that evokes a special aesthetical purity.

The esthetical purity reflects itself also in the functionality of the kitchen: the door without handle is easier to clean because the surface is compact and flat, with no interruptions.

I always suggest this one to people looking for a minimal design, as well as to the ones with a very small kitchen or to the messy ones. The handles increases the number of element of the kitchen aesthetics, so that it looks overwhelmed.

Once you decided for a handless system, there are different types you can choose.

Stosa Cucine offers six solutions

Flat groove

Flat groove with pocket

“Diagonal” handle grip for flat groove

“L” handle grip for flat groove

Hallow groove

“Diagonal” handle grip for hallow groove

“L” handle grip for hallow groove

From the point of view of convenience, the notch allows an easier opening, because of the bigger space to grip the door. In this phase I always suggest to my costumers to try in the showroom what opening is the most suitable for them.

As far as the aesthetics is concerned, the six solutions are all valid: one of the most interesting, though, is the one with coloured notches.

For example, I’ve just designed a total white kitchen with red notches, together with a freestanding fridge of the same colour, for a custumer who wanted a 80s-music-inspired kitchen.

Not to forget: the notch of the columns has a breadth of 3 cm and it’s settled on the side of the door.

The handle

If the handless door is perfect for minimal kitchen, the ones loving the details will choose the handle.

The handle is a fully-fledge accessory, that’s why it must me carefully chosen. Even when we talk about handles the choice must be taken among many others and Stosa Cucine offers more than 200 models:

Also in this case, I suggest to try to grip the handle or to make someone else gripping it, so that you can understand if the handle suits the gesture of your family. Besides this choice, there’s the one about aesthetics.

If your home has a definite style, it’s required to follow it even in the choice of the handle. While, if your home doesn’t have a clear style, then pick the handle that takes after the already present elements of your home.

I always say to my customer that the handle is a very distinctive feature and consequently gives a clear indication of the age of the kitchen.

For this reason, my suggestion is to prefer a lower profile handless kitchen or clear-designed ones.

Another interesting solution is Rewind kitchen with integrated handles, the perfect collection for the lover of details and the research design: the handle is evident, but is also a fine decoration. I find it really eye-cathcing, alowing the door a unique and sartorial element. I imagine it in a house full of contrasts, for a familiy who loves to experiment, create and observe.

Well, between handles or handless kitchen, the possibilities are infinite.

As usual the design is fundamental: never choose a handle at the end of everything, but rather during the process of design.

You must consider your habits, your individual taste and the characteristics of the kitchen!

As usual, there is not a right or a wrong choice, but the right choice for the person living there, especially in that kitchen.

From this point of view, Stosa alllows a lot of options leaving the customers free of creating their own kitchen, thanks to the possibility of mixing models and collections.

So, make a good choice!
